The Center for Rehabilitation of Torture Victims in Sarajevo,Bosnia and Herzegovina was established with the expert assistance of the IRCT/RCT, Copenhagen,Denmark. The European Commission-Unit for Human Rights and Democratization provided financial resources.

The Center is a part of the IRCT /International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims/ Network of centers for rehabilitation of torture victims,and a member of the BAN network of regional centers for rehabilitation of torture victims in the Balkan area.The CTV Sarajevo is an independent, non-political organization providing services for all clients - torture victims, regardless of their nationality, religion, political affiliation or origin.The targeted groups for which we provide services are torture victims and their families.We provide services for the period immediately following the end of the war.Mass displacement ,imprisonment, torture, sieges and urbicide characterized the war period.Consequently, we now have a large population of torture survivors in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

We divided the targeted population into three groups:

  1. Victims of torture in concentration camps
  2. Victims of torture perpetrated in their homes /whether they were later displaced or remained at home until the end of war /
  3. Victims of torture in present circumstances

AIMS

  • Treatment and rehabilitation of torture victims and their families
  • Documentation, monitoring, research and publication of research material.
  • Cooperation with the Bosnian official health –care system and other governmental and non-governmental organizations active in the area of rehabilitation and human rights.
  • Work on raising of the general public awareness about torture and its consequences.
  • Prevention of torture
  • Education of medical professionals and paraprofessionals in the area of torture,its consequences, rehabilitation and prevention.
  • Advocacy for survivors of torture.

ACTIVITIES OF CTV SARAJEVO

  1. Identification of torture victims /survivors of torture from the war in Bosnia and torture victims in present circumstances
  2. Medical and psychiatric treatment
  3. Research in the area of torture ,its consequences ,rehabilitation and prevention.
  4. Prevention of torture
  5. Education and training of health professionals in medical,social,ethical and legal aspects of torture.   
  6. Activities of advocating the rights of torture survivors to legal definition of their status, full medical and psychological rehabilitation and compensation.

Centar za žrtve torture Sarajevo, Bosna i Hercegovina je osnovan uz ekspertnu pomoć IRCT/RCT, Kopenhagen,Danska. Evropska komisija – odjel za ljudska prava i demokratizaciju obezbijedio je finansijska sredstva.

Centar je član IRCT /International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims/ mreže centara za rehabilitaciju žrtava torture, i član BAN mreže regionalnih centara za rehabilitaciju žrtava torture na području Balkana. CTV Sarajevo is neovisna, nepolitička organizacija koja pruža usluge za sve klijente – žrtve torture, bez obzira na njihovu nacionalnost, religiju, političku orijentaciju ili porijeklo. Ciljana grupa kojoj mi pružamo usluge su žrtve torture i njihove familije. Pružamo usluge od perioda neposredno nakon završetka rata. Masovno raseljavanje, zatočenja, tortura, opsade i urbicid karakterisali su ratni period. Kao posljedicu, sada imamo veliku populaciju preživjelih torture u Bosni i Hercegovini.

Podijelili smo ciljanu populaciju u tri grupe:

  1. .Žrtve torture u koncentracionim kampovima
  2. Žrtve torture koje su mučene u njihovim domovima /bez obzira da li su oni kasnije protjerani ili su ostali u svojim domovima do kraja rata/
  3. .Žrtve torture danas

CILJEVI

  • Tretman i rehabilitacija žrtava torture i njihovih familija
  • Dokumentacija, monitoring, istraživanje i publikacija istraživačkog materijala
  • Saradnja sa zvaničnim zdravstvenim sistemom u Bosni i Hercegovini i drugim vladinim i nevladinim organizacijama koje su aktivne u području rehabilitacije i ljudskih prava
  • Rad na podizanju opšte društvene svjesnosti o torturi i njenim posljedicama
  • Prevencija torture
  • Edukacija medicinskih profesionalaca i paraprofesionalaca u području torture, njenih posljedica, rehabilitacije i prevencije
  • Zastupanje preživjelih torture

AKTIVNOSTI CTV SARAJEVO

  1. Identifikacija žrtava torture /preživjeli torture iz rata u Bosni i žrtve torture u sadašnjem periodu /
  2. Medicinski i psihijatrijski tretman
  3. Istraživanje u području torture, njenih posljedica, rehabilitacije i prevencije
  4. Prevencija torture
  5. Edukacija i trening zdravstvenih profesionalaca u medicinskim, socijalnim, etičkim i pravnim aspektima torture
  6. Aktivnosti zastupanja prava preživjelih torture u definisanju njihovog pravnog statusa, pune medicinske i psihološke rehabilitacije i kompenzacije
